Stella also meets and befriends Daria, a bat spirit and particularly troubled patient of the facility. Stella will lend a helping hand by providing new resources for the hospital, as well as by understanding the workings of the mysterious Charon Vending Machine. Stella will first befriend the hyena spirit Jackie, a well-meaning but dispirited lug who is overwhelmed by everything that must be done to keep the facility running. Now, what can you expect in today’s update? Stella sets sail for Overbrook Island, where problems abound at the dilapidated local hospital. Hence were born Beverly, the diminutive-yet-adorable owl spirit from our summer update. I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about how we got here.Īs we shipped Spiritfarer, our cozy management game about dying, during a global pandemic in August 2020, we felt a whirlwind of doubts and joy, a maelstrom of anxiousness and relief.Įarly reviews were good – dare I say great! But especially surprising were the emails, letters, and direct messages bearing heartfelt, kind words. It’s a victory lap of sorts for a game near and dear to us, one that we never dreamed would be embraced by one-million players and counting. Today, since we’re closing the book on the game for the foreseeable future, we’re adding the “Farewell Edition” subtitle to Spiritfarer. A lot of games with an artificial day-night-cycle, like some farming games, can be stressful for me, but Spiritfarer lets you unravel everything at your own pace.Yes, it’s the end of a long journey for Team Spiritfarer. But I wasn't rushed, my relationship with him didn't suffer, and he was incredibly grateful once he got it. I had to jump through an incredible number of hoops to get chicken to for him. Stella can use her guitar to play for the plants, which prompts a rhythm minigame where you press buttons to the beat of the amazing song. Growing crops in the game can be a slow process, having to check in to water plants and just be patient. My favorite piece of the game's music is a little tune I like to call The Plant Song. The music that plays while you sail, as you're in different towns, and when you bring spirits to the end of their lives is always appropriate, using string instruments to tug at my own heart's strings (pun intended). You know a game's music is special when it blends so seamlessly into the gameplay that you find yourself feeling emotions, only to realize that the music was affecting you.
